Obituary: Mary (Goodwin) Keel

Ms. Mary (Goodwin) Keel of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the age of 80. She was born April 23, 1944 in Jackson County, Arkansas, the daughter of Dolph and Grace (Bolls) Goodwin.

Mary was a graduate of the Newport High School Class of 1962. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newport, where she taught VBS and Sunday School classes.

Mary was an active member of her community, serving with the Town and Country Garden Club, the Newcomers Club, and the Newport Service League, where she was a Past President. She was an active PTA mother, earning a Lifetime Achievement Award from the organization.

She worked as a Supervisor and Manager at Price Chopper in Newport for 20 years, before her retirement.

Mary enjoyed cooking and gardening, as well as playing tennis. She was an avid fan of college football and tennis.

An animal lover, Mary held a special place for her Poodle, Yogi Bear.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ashley Keel; one sister, Lois Black; and her parents.

Mary is survived by one son, Peyton Keel and wife, Desi, of Fayetteville; a special friend, Dennis Turner of Tuckerman; two nieces, Leigh Black of Jonesboro, and Michelle Green of Missouri; three nephews, R. David Black of Little Rock, Patrick Black of Searcy, and Brian Goodwin of Greenwood; many grand-cats and dogs, and a lifetime of friends.
