Scots volleyball sweeps SLIAC tri-match at Eureka to cap regular season play
EUREKA, Ill. — Scots volleyball defeated Eureka College and Spalding University to close out both regular season and SLIAC conference play.
Lyon College (18-7, 10-6) started the day against Eureka College at Saturday morning and saw the Scots defeat the Red Devils in straight sets, with final scores of 29-27, 26-24, and 25-22.
The Scots took on Spalding University immediately after at 12 p.m., and they took care of business once more, also defeating the Eagles in straight sets with final scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 25-7.
The Scots return to action next Thursday, Nov. 7 when they begin their USCAA Tournament run at 1:30 p.m. against Shaw University in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.’
Lyon College men’s cross country team runs sixth at SLIAC Championships
LITCHFIELD, Ill. – The Lyon College Scots men’s Cross Country team ran sixth out of nine teams in the SLIAC championships on Saturday morning.
James McNew led the Scots in the men’s 8000 meter run with a 16th place finish in a time of 28:20.57.
Thomas Daniel was 35th in a time of 31:34.61. Collin Orvin was 36th in a time of 31:40.95, Noah Cordes ran 37th in a time of 31:44.30, Gavin Bush finished 38th in a time of 31:52.86, Ethan Byler was 40th in a time of 32:14.68, Timothy Brady was 41st in a time of 32:17.25. Jakobe Alcorn was 58th in a time of 34:06.47, Andrew Hernandez was 63rd in at time of 35:22.00 and Sean Hall finished 67th in a time of 37:39.47.
The Scots finished with a team score of 162. There were 75 runners in the men’s race.
Lyon College women’s cross country team takes third at SLIAC Championships
LITCHFIELD, Ill. – The Lyon College women’s Cross Country team finished third overall in the the SLIAC Championships on Saturday.
The Scots finished with 93 points, behind leader Spalding and second place Greenville.
Madison DeRoussel ran fifth overall and led Lyon College with a time of 25:23.81 in the 6000 meter run. Joanna Wilson ran 16th in a time of 27:02.57, Olivia Letkey was 19th in a time of 27:15.39, Alora Huver was 24th in a time of 29:30.52, Novalee Lackey was 29th in a time of 30:56.10 and Brianna Krantz ran 30th in a time of 31:14.69.

Scots fall at Texas Lutheran in SCAC play 45-10
SEGUIN, Texas – The Lyon Scots football team lost 45-10 to the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Bulldogs Stadium in Seguin, Texas in a SCAC match up.
The Scots (1-7, 0-6) had 264 yards of total offense in 70 plays.
After TLU had scored on its opening drive to go up 7-0, Jaylin Babers capped off a seven play, 49 yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Joe Galay. Jesus Romero-Castillo added the extra point to tie the game at 7-7.
The Scots score was set up by a 49-yard kickoff return from Reggie Brown.
The Bulldogs added another touchdown before the end of the first quarter to lead 14-7.
Lyon College drove down to the TLU 27 yard line, but turned the ball over on downs after an incomplete pass on fourth-and-eight.
Texas Lutheran scored two more touchdowns before the end of the first half to lead 28-7.
A pass 13-yard pass to Xavier Long gave the Scots a first down midway through the third quarter on a dive that saw Javarion Williams catch at 24-yard pass to the TLU 12. The drive resulted in a 33-yard field goal by Romero-Castillo to make it a 28-10 game with 3:31 to go in the third quarter.
Texas Lutheran kicked 30-yard field goal with 32 seconds to go in the quarter to lead 31-10.
Then the Bulldogs added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Individually for the Scots, Galay was 22-of-37 for 153 yards and threw one touchdown and had one interception.
Babers rushed 24 times for 91 yards and Mark Brown had five rushes for 22 yards to lead Lyon College.
Reggie Brown II had four catches for 62 yards, Williams had five receptions for 40 yards, Long had two catches for 19 yards, Babers caught two passes for 17 yards with one for a touchdown, and Cedric Allen had five catches for 17 yards.
Keidrick Wooten is now the Lyon College record leader for tackles-for-losses with two today against TLU. He had six tackles overall. Mason Davis led the Scots with seven tackles, La’Kendrin more had six tackles, Zach Moragne had four tackles, while Slaton Wheeler, Xiyiah Spencer-Cole, Michael Wingo and Nate Sarver had three tackles each.
Romero-Castillo had three punts for 90 yards to average 30 yards per kick. Reggie Brown led in kickoff returns with two for 79 yards and Williams caught three kickoffs for 51 yards.
The Scots will play their final home contest of the season next Saturday, November 9. The game is set for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Pioneer Stadium and it will be Senior Day for Lyon College football.
