After years behind one of Arkansas’ longtime dirt track racing venues, Connie and Mooney Starr announced late Monday that they are putting Batesville Motor Speedway up for sale.
The decision, shared in a Facebook post, marks the end of an era for the Locust Grove track, known for its vibrant racing community.
The Starrs say the choice to sell the 3/8-mile track was not an easy one.
“We have spent 32 years of our lives promoting races in the Mid-South area, and I feel that we have made a major impact on all classes of racing with some of the wild ideas that turned out to be positive ones for the racers and the fans,” Mooney Starr said, referencing notable events like the Topless 100.
“We have built this facility into one of the nicest tracks around,” he added, “but there comes a time when you physically cannot do what it takes to keep things going.”
The 2025 race schedule for Batesville Motor Speedway has already been set, ensuring any prospective buyers a smooth transition with full support from the track’s sponsors.
For the Starr family, the decision to sell is bittersweet.
“Racing has been a part of our lives for so long, and having sons that race makes it that much harder. All we have ever done has revolved around racing in some way. It will be a sad day and a happy one,” they said in the post.
