United Way of North Central Arkansas has announced structural changes to enhance its community support efforts and has expanded its service area to include Fulton County.
The organization serves Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Sharp, and Stone counties, focusing on education, financial stability, and health.
Under the leadership of President John Kunkel, United Way has transitioned from a paid executive director position to a working Board of Directors. The change aims to allocate more resources directly to community programs and maximize donor contributions.
On Nov. 7, the organization hosted its first Night of Impact event at Lyon College in Batesville, celebrating community support and launching its 2025 campaign. Substantial donations from Bruce and Pat Rutherford and State Representative Shad Pearce provided an early boost to fundraising efforts.
In 2024, United Way awarded $5,000 in grants to local agencies, including Family Violence Prevention, Help and Hope, Independence County Senior Center, Mission of Hope, and the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project. These grants support programs for vulnerable populations in the region.
The organization also recognized key contributors with the Business Donor Pillar and Individual Donor Pillar Awards. Businesses such as First Community Bank, LaCroix Precision Optics, Future Fuel, and Intimidator Toro Group were honored for their support. Individual donors were also acknowledged, including Platinum Donors Dale and Gayle Cole, Boris and Pam Dover, and Ray and Diane LaCroix. Gold donors included Kirk and Michelle Warden. Silver Donors were Justin and Raya Tracy, Jeff Reves, and Bill and Karen Campbell.
White River Health received the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Award for its efforts in promoting early childhood literacy. The hospital enrolls each newborn in a program providing free monthly books from birth to age five.
Kunkel emphasized United Way’s mission to address community needs.
“Our mission is more than just words—it is the lifeline that many in our community rely on during times of hardship. We are here to stand beside those who need us most, and we believe that together we can transform lives and build a stronger, more resilient community,” he said.
The organization has launched its 2025 Workplace Campaign, inviting local businesses and individuals to contribute. Donations support local programs in education, financial stability, and health.
