James “Mickey” Brock of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the age of 73. He was born January 30, 1951, in Newport, the son of James Benjamin and Bernice “Bea” (Watson) Brock.
Mickey graduated from Tuckerman High School in 1969. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam, where he served as a Military Police officer. During his time in the war, Mickey displayed exceptional bravery and earned two Purple Hearts for his service.
Upon returning to the States, he embarked on a journey that would shape his life as a police officer. A graduate of the Black River Technical College Law Enforcement Training Academy, Mickey began his career as an officer with the Tuckerman Police Department. He eventually earned the role of Chief Deputy for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and retired on November 23, 2022. During his career, he was a beloved deputy who earned the respect of his community.
Mickey was an avid reader, an animal lover, and enjoyed collecting guns. Most of all, he loved visiting with his friends and family in the community.
He was a member of the Tuckerman Church of Christ.
Mickey was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Wayne Brock; one nephew, Roger Brock; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Glenna (Burgess) Brock of the home; one stepson, Billy Jack Bailey of Mountain View; one grandson, Brandon Bailey and wife, Tristine of Swifton; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Brock and Anna Armstrong and husband, Fred; brothers-in-law, Troy Burgess, and Coy Burgess and wife, Bobbie; two nephews, Robert Brock and Michael Brock; his good friend, Tim Wilson; and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, on Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Dowell’s Chapel Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Drake Slagley, Ricky Morales, Jason Tubbs, Justin Staggs, Maci Hembrey, Wrotie Koller, J.R. Moody, Carl Schlotzhauer, David Lucas, and Justin Collom. Members of all Jackson County Law Enforcement Agencies, Jackson County Fire Departments, and EMS, will serve as honorary pallbearers.
