Marcus Bowers, 82, of Batesville passed away on November 30, 2024.
He was born November 4, 1942, in Batesville, Arkansas to William Dial Bowers and Annabel (Bone) Bowers.
Marcus was a cherished husband, father, brother, son and dear friend to so many. The life he lived was full and those he met along the way were forever affected by his generosity and caring nature. He was a gentleman, a man’s man and friend’s friend. As a 5th generation member of the Batesville community, his impact on business, neighbors and friends was a gift and legacy remembered by all who knew him. He loved his work, and it was his passion. He owned River City Excavating and spent a lifetime operating equipment, clearing land and moving dirt. On a dozer or backhoe or watching them work was where he was most at home. Outside of work his greatest love was Glenda, his wife of 42 years and love of family and friends and that love never failed.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda (Guthrie) Bowers of the home; two sons, Marc Bowers (Aida) of McLean, Virginia, Blake Henthorne (Jennifer) of Little Rock; two daughters, Stephanie Glenn (Lance) of Barling, Arkansas, Stacie Clyburn of Little Rock, and; one sister, Georgeann Hicks of Batesville; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Calhoon (Austin), Madison Watkins, Connor Bowers, Riley Beneux (Logan) and Sara Bowers; one great-grandchild, Isabella Beneau, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers are Chance Jackson, Spencer Jackson, Chad Guthrie, Ryan Guthrie, John Showalter, and Chris Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are Legacy Hospice, Janice Benton, John Arceneaux, Bill Hicks, and the Supper Club.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church with John High officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from noon until the service time.
