James Andrew McSpadden, 74, of Newport, passed away on December 2, 2024. He was born on September 7, 1950, to James Lloyd McSpadden and Daisy Knight.
James served his country with honor in the Vietnam War, where he forged a foundation of discipline and resilience that carried him through life. Following his military service, he built a fulfilling career in transportation with the railroad, a profession he took great pride in.
A man of many interests, James had a creative side that shone through his love of drawing. He also enjoyed collecting dragon memorabilia, a hobby that reflected his vibrant imagination and appreciation for the mystical. Whether fishing at his favorite spot or tending to his yard, he found joy and tranquility in the simple pleasures of life.
James had an infectious personality and a natural gift for connecting with others. He enjoyed socializing and was known for his warmth, humor, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. A devoted family man, James was a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose presence was a source of strength and comfort to those who knew him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, survived by his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
James Andrew McSpadden will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who love him.
James was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of over thirty years, Melinda McSpadden.
He is survived by, his daughters, Andria Leeder of Michigan, Deanna Jones of Michigan, and Cheri Baty of Newport; his son, Shawn Shaffer of Springfield, Missouri; his brother, Bobby Joe McSpadden of Indiana; his sister, Mary Ellen Swift of Paragould; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Cooper officiating.
