Nettleton girls, Thayer boys win Mark Martin/Lyon College High School Invitational Tournament

The 2024 Mark Martin/Lyon College High School Invitational Tournament finished Saturday night, with the Nettleton Lady Raiders and the Thayer Bobcats winning the championships.

Nettleton Lady Raiders

Nettleton 76, Mountain View 66, 2OT
Kinsley Patterson scored 21 points, Jessica Collins added 16, Taylor Cunningham scored 11, and Kaedyn Hardaway added 10 to lead the Nettleton Lady Raiders to a double-overtime win against Mountain View.

Jaci Cooper led the Lady Yellowjackets with 23 points, while Evvi Cooper added 14 points, and Josie Stevens scored 10 in the loss.

Nettleton led 14-11 after the first quarter but trailed Mountain View 30-26 at halftime. Nettleton came back to lead 41-40 by the end of the third quarter, and the game was tied at the end of regulation 54-54.

The contest was still undetermined with both teams at 59-59 by the end of the first over time, then seven free throws from Patterson and a momentum turning three-pointer from Collins led Nettleton to a 10-point victory.

Collins (pictured above, with Lyon AD Kevin Jenkins) was named the Most Valuable Player for the girl’s tournament and Nettleton head coach Kevin Frisbee won the coach’s award.

Greers Ferry Westside 81, Manila 54
In the third-place game, Katelyn Cornett scored 22 points, Ashlyn Cossey added 18, and Lainee Gentry scored 15 points to lead Greers Ferry Westside to victory.

Lucy Farmer led Manila with 17 points, while Madysen Deeds and Hadlie Goodson scored 10 points each in the loss.

Thayer 62, Cedar Ridge 58
Easton Pitts scored 21 points, Devin Harrington added 16, and Brandon Prince put in 11 points to lead Thayer over Cedar Ridge in the boy’s championship

Kyle Provence led Cedar Ridge with 17 points, Easton Griffin scored 15 points, and Rylan Brown added 14 in the loss.

Cedar Ridge led 15-14 after the first quarter, but Thayer came back to lead 32-31 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Cedar Ridge had a 47-45 lead, but in the end Pitts hit two key three-pointers and Harrington added six points to lead to the win.Pitts (above, right, with Lyon AD Kevin Jenkins) was named the boy’s tournament Most Valuable Player and Matt Pitts of Thayer won the coach’s award.

Batesville 66, Greers Ferry Westside 62, OT
Ransom Dunlap scored 22 points, Rafa Thomas added 21 points,and Cole Bentz put in 10 points to lead Batesville by Greers Ferry Westside in the boy’s third-place game.

Max Gipson led Greers Ferry with 25 points, Will Jackson scored 14 points ,and Brooks Hipp added 12.
