A Heber Springs man was critically injured early Friday following a high-speed pursuit and shooting in Little Rock, according to the Arkansas State Police.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. after state troopers identified a Dodge Ram 1500 that had previously evaded Little Rock police. The vehicle fled east on Baseline Road at speeds exceeding 100 mph before crashing at the intersection of Baseline Road and Arch Street Pike.

When troopers approached the truck and ordered the occupants to exit, state police said a single gunshot was heard from inside the vehicle. The driver, a 28-year-old Heber Springs man, was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A 44-year-old woman from Little Rock, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained injuries in the crash. Both individuals were transported to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for treatment. Authorities reported the driver remained in critical condition as of Friday, while the passenger was still hospitalized.

During a search of the truck, investigators recovered a 9mm handgun, an AR-15 rifle, and illegal narcotics. The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident.
