A house fire on Rosewood Street destroyed a residence late Sunday night, according to Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery.

The fire at 135 Rosewood was reported at 8:28 p.m. Northside Fire Department crews battled heavy winds and snow flurries to extinguish the blaze, remaining on the scene until 11 p.m. However, flames reignited around 12:30 a.m. Monday, requiring firefighters to return and stay until 2 a.m.

No serious injuries were reported, but one resident was treated on-site for an unrelated medical issue by VitalLink paramedics.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a space heater, Jeffery said.

The home was declared a total loss. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
