Obituary: Roy Lee Duty

Roy Lee Duty, 70, of Newport, passed from this life on January 10, 2025. He was born in Newport on July 23, 1954, to Leroy Duty and Minia (Glover) Duty Neal.

Roy was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent much of his life working in a steel mill and farming. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he was honored with a Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.

In his free time, Roy found joy in the great outdoors. He loved deer hunting and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to connect with nature and find peace.

Roy was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend. He was known for his strong spirit, kind heart, and steadfast loyalty to those he cared about. His presence brought comfort and strength to those who knew and loved him.

His parents, Leroy Duty and Minia Neal, preceded him in death, and his sisters, Jane Johns, Martha Johns, and Doris Hunt.

Roy is survived by his brother, Danny Duty of Newport; his sisters, Paula Stallnacker of Tuckerman, Barbara Hooker of Batesville; and Betty Rogers of Pangburn; lifelong best friend, Debbie Loftis; and a host of family and friends who will deeply miss his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love.

Roy’s life will be celebrated with gratitude for the memories he created and the lives he touched. His legacy of courage, kindness, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
