The Lyon College School of Dental Medicine has announced the appointment of John Teed, DDS, (pictured) as an assistant professor. Dr. Teed joins the faculty after a distinguished career in both clinical practice and public health, bringing valuable experience to the school’s educational programs, the college said in a news release.

Dr. Teed earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 2020, following his summa cum laude graduation from Ouachita Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Finance in 2013. He holds licenses to practice in both Arkansas and Tennessee and has gained extensive experience working in underserved areas. Since 2020, Dr. Teed has served as a regional dentist for the Tennessee Department of Health, where he has been recognized for his clinical productivity and leadership skills.

In his role at Lyon College, Dr. Teed will contribute to training the next generation of dental professionals, focusing on general dentistry, patient education and clinical skills.

“Dr. Teed brings a wealth of experience and a passion for serving diverse populations, particularly in underserved areas,” said Dr. Burke Soffe, founding dean of the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine. “His expertise in both clinical dentistry and leadership within public health settings will be invaluable as we continue to expand our impact on dental education and community health.”

Dr. Teed’s background also includes work in teledentistry and significant community service, including volunteer efforts with American Dental Association’s “Give Kids a Smile” program. His dedication to patient care and his proactive approach to dental health education will play an integral role in advancing the mission of Lyon College’s dental school.

“I am honored to join the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine,” Dr. Teed said. “I look forward to mentoring future dental professionals and expanding access to care across the state.”
