The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office has installed a new body scanner at the Sharp County Detention Center in Ash Flat.

“This advanced technology represents a critical step forward and is a vital investment in ensuring the safety and security of the detention center, its staff, and inmates,” Sheriff Shane Russell said in a press release announcing the scanner’s installation.

The scanner, which is now fully operational, is designed to detect contraband such as weapons, drugs, and other prohibited items that could pose a risk within the detention center. By providing comprehensive screening, the device reduces the need for invasive searches during the inmate intake process, officials said.

Sheriff Russell emphasized the importance of the new technology in enhancing safety protocols while maintaining efficiency.

“The body scanner is part of the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing commitment to modernizing operations and adopting innovative solutions to better serve the community,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to Sharp County Judge Mark Counts and the Sharp County Quorum Court for their support in making the project a reality.

“Their leadership and dedication to public safety made this project possible,” Russell said, adding that the collaboration underscores the importance of community efforts to improve public services.
