Savanna Lopez had 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots to lead the Lyon College Scots over the visiting Blackburn Beavers 101-54 on Saturday afternoon at Becknell Gymnasium in SLIAC basketball action.
The Scots (7-8, 4-4) were led in scoring by Natalya Kaza with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, Dalye Hambelton had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists for a double-double, Olivia Jones came off the bench for 12 points, Haven Cooper had 12 points and six rebounds and Molly Mason rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and also had a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Chasity Taylor had nine points, Savannah Stout had six points, Jewel Walley scored five points, Emily Walley added four points, and Alexis Shelton added two points. Izabel Soto and Olivia Wallace also played in the game, but did not score.
Lyon College led 18-11 after the first quarter and outscored Blackburn 31-15 in the second period to take a 49-26 halftime lead. The Scots outscored the Beavers 25-14 in the third quarter and 27-14 in the fourth quarter.
Lyon College scored 68 points in the paint, had 40 points off of 28 Blackburn turnovers, had 16 second-chance points, 36 fast-break points, and got 48 points from the bench players. Lyon College led the entire game. The Scots only had 14 turnovers in the game, 59 rebounds, and 25 assists.
Mason and Kaza scored before Blackburn got on the scoreboard. Kza added a layup and Hambelton drove the lane for a shot. Lopez hit a jumper, as did Emily Walley, before Kaza added another layup to make it 14-2 Scots. Hambelton added two free throws, and Mason made two free throws before the quarter ended.
Kaza started the second period with a three-pointer, then Mason made a layup, Hambleton made a three-pointer, and then drove in for another layup. Chasity Taylor came in for a basket, Hambelton made another three-pointer, and Lopez scored to make it an 18-point Scots’ lead, 35-18.
Lopez made a jumper, Cooper scored inside, Taylor put in two free throws and Lopez scored again to make it 43-26 with 1:58 to go in the half. Kaza and Mason both scored, then Kaza drove the lane for a layup to make it a 49-26 lead at the break.
Blackburn scored four straight baskets to start the third quarter until Cooper scored inside on a layup. Shelton scored inside, Cooper put in two jumpers in a row, Stout hit from mid-range and came back to score a layup with 3:16 to go in the third quarter for a 61-36 Lyon College lead. Emily Walley scored on a layup, Lopez hit again from inside, Jewel Walley completed a three-point play, Cooper scored and Kaza got in a layup to make it a 34-point Lyon College lead 74-40.
Taylor started the scoring in the final stanza with two free throws, Lopez made a jumper and Taylor came back to hit a three-pointer. Jones came in for a basket inside, then Kaza scored, Jones scored again, Mason put in a layup, Jones scored inside three times in a row, Stout got a layup to fall, Cooper scored and Jones put in a basket on the fast-break to put the Scots up 101-54 with 54 seconds to go in the game.
Lyon College hits the road next Thursday and Saturday in the SLIAC to play Spalding and Greenville.
