A fire destroyed a home in Independence County on Sunday afternoon.

The Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department said the fire on Old School Road was reported around 12:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the attic and shooting out windows on two sides of the home.

Fire departments from Cord, Sulphur Rock, and Newark provided mutual aid, but the home was a total loss.

The Charlotte department issued a statement thanking other agencies for their assistance.
