A report of a man who had been spending up to two hours in a local convenience store bathroom resulted in his arrest on a rape charge out of Crittenden County.
Batesville Police Officer Sam Stone responded to a call on Dec. 11, 2024, at Casey’s convenience store, where a clerk reported that a man had been taking items from the donut case without paying and spending extended periods in the men’s restroom. The subject, identified as Deon James Rynders (pictured bel0w), 22, of Williford, Ark., was found inside a restroom stall, reportedly eating a donut when Stone arrived.
Upon checking Rynders’ records, Stone discovered an active felony arrest warrant out of Marion, Arkansas, from November 2024 on one count of rape. According to his arrest affidavit, Rynders was taken into custody after exiting the stall. He was initially booked into the Independence County Jail before being transferred to authorities in Crittenden County, where he is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
In addition to the rape charge, Rynders now faces a felony charge in Independence County for failure to comply with registration and reporting requirements. Court documents filed this week allege Rynders had been spending time in Batesville without updating his required residence when he was arrested last month. His bond in that case is set at $50,000.
