Opening the ceremony with the sound of bagpipes, Lyon College broke ground today on its new football stadium, Bad Boy Stadium, marking a significant step in the college’s athletic expansion.

The ceremony, held at the Lyon College football complex on campus, gathered a crowd of school officials, community leaders, project supporters and community members.

Set to open in time for the Scots’ first home game on Sept. 13, 2025, the stadium will initially feature a regulation-size playing field, seating for 600 fans, a press box, a digital scoreboard, concessions, and restroom facilities.

Speakers highlighted the impact the long-term investment would have not only on the athletics program but on Lyon as a whole while simultaneously thanking the alumni, partnering businesses, and community members. School officials say the facility will serve as a central hub for both the college and the surrounding community.

Vice President for Advancement David Hutchison opened the ceremony highlighting moments in Lyon’s history, and the impact of the ground breaking today.

Head football coach Chris Douglas highlighted the impact of the project on recruiting and team development, saying “We’re proudly navy and crimson, now we’re going to be able to rock it here, September 13th.” Commenting on the support of the community and Lyon alumni, Douglas said, “I can’t express how excited I am about the generosity of the community.”

The project is backed by key community and corporate partnerships. Bad Boy Mowers, a Batesville-based company, has secured naming rights for the stadium, while Atlas Asphalt/White River Materials has committed to naming the playing field. Significant financial contributions have also come from The Bank of Cave City, First Community Bank, and Merchants and Planters Bank.

Head Football Coach Chris Douglas touches on the involvement of the community and alumni as the football program continues to develop, and what it means to have a place of their own.

With a total project cost of $2.5 million, fundraising efforts are ongoing. Officials reported that $1.5 million has been raised so far, with additional contributions still needed.

Phase two of the project includes plans for expanded seating, visitor stands, a dedicated visiting team locker room, and a grand entry plaza designed to enhance the fan experience. The plaza will also serve as a venue for campus and community events.
