A Calico Rock man jailed in Stone County on multiple charges now faces two felonies and a $400,000 bond after allegedly faking a medical emergency and assaulting officers in a failed escape attempt in late January.
Nicholas Adam Staggs, 38, was charged Tuesday with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer or correctional employee and second-degree escape.
According to court records, jailers and deputies responded to a reported medical emergency involving Staggs at the Stone County Detention Center on Jan. 24. While waiting for medics, Staggs, who had earlier faked a seizure in an attempt to be released, struggled with jailers and deputies as he tried to exit through the back parking area.
Staggs was eventually subdued and returned to his cell after swinging at officers and attempting to bite a sheriff’s deputy during the incident, according to court documents.
Staggs was initially jailed on Jan. 22 in connection with charges including public intoxication, fleeing on foot, possession of a controlled substance, criminal mischief, and violation of a no-contact order.
