Gayle Young Stobaugh, 84, of Little Rock passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Woodlawn Heights in Batesville.
She was born August 9, 1940, in Maysville, Oklahoma to Ira M. Young and Anna Weichel Young.
Mrs. Stobaugh was the choral director for Batesville School District for 29 years. Before that, she taught high school English at Cord-Charlotte and first and second grades at Bethesda. She also taught first grade at East Elementary for two years. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Arkansas College (now Lyon College) and her master’s degree in administration from ASU. Some of her best memories were having choirs sing for the Arkansas Legislature, and taking choirs to regional and state competitions where the choirs won numerous awards. She was also a co-founder of the BJHS dance team Pioneer Steppers. Over the years, she was the organist for Calvary Baptist Church, Central Avenue Methodist Church, and First United Methodist Church of Batesville. In her free time, she enjoyed painting, artwork, and watching the Pioneers and the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Stobaugh, Jr. (Shelia) of Little Rock, and John Stobaugh (Freda) of Allen, Texas; one sister, Louella Stricklin of Savannah, Tennessee; one grandchild, Maegan Alexander of Allen, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Stobaugh, Sr., and one brother, Warren Young.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, February 8, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in Batesville under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home with Katie Pearce officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the music department of First United Methodist Church of Batesville, Central Avenue United Methodist Church of Batesville, or St. James United Methodist Church of Little Rock.
