Scots split double-header at University of the Ozarks
CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – The Lyon College Scots softball team traveled to Clarksville Sunday. The Scots used a 9-run fourth inning to defeat the University of the Ozarks Eagles 10-0 in five innings of the first game.
In the second game, the Scots (2-2) didn’t get a hit until the top of the fifth inning and were shutout 9-0.
In the first game, the Scots scored first in the top of the first inning when Brianna Morquecho scored on an errant pick-off attempt at third base by the Ozarks catcher.
Both teams advanced to the top of the fourth inning with the Scots leading 1-0. Anna Voth started off the inning for Lyon College with a base hit to left field. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and Ashley Abel singled to left field. MK Duffield doubled to the right-center field gap to bring in Voth and send pinch runner Gabby Thomas to third base.
Olivia Orf singled to left field to bring in Thomas and move Duffield to third. Duffield tried to score on a wild pitch, but was tagged by the Ozarks catcher just before touching home plate and Orf moved to second on the play. Skylar Foreman singled just past the short stop to put runners at the corners, then Callie Marberry doubled to left-center field wall to bring in Orf. Emily Martinez walked and Morquecho walked with the bases loaded to bring in Marberry.
Sophie Varela was hit by a pitch and that brought in a pinch-runner Ohnire Bergman, who was running for Martinez. Anna Voth was hit by a pitch to reload the bases, then Abel hit a two-run single to left-center and Duffield hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in the ninth run of the inning.
Lyon had 10 runs, 10 hits and one error in the game.
Georgia Holzer (2-0) picked up the win going five full innings and allowing on three hits, walked one and struck out two
Ozarks batters of the 20 she faced.
In the second game, Ozarks took a 7-0 lead in the first three innings and kept Lyon off the base paths. The Scots went three up and three down through the first four innings until Rebecca Rodriguez got a single to short left field in the top of the fifth inning. She was left stranded on base.
Ozarks added two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to win the second game 9-0.
Sydney Lasher (0-1) suffered the loss for the Scots on the mound in Game 2.
Lyon College softball splits double-header at Ecclesia
SPRINGDALE, Arkansas – The Lyon College Scots softball team opened the 2025 season with a split decision at host Ecclesia College on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (1-1) won the first game 12-11 and dropped the second game 17-10 as temperatures started to drop in northwest Arkansas.
In the first game, Lyon College trailed 2-0 until the top of the third inning when they broke out for six runs to take the lead. Ecclesia came back with two runs in the bottom half of the third to close the gap to 6-4.
The Scots added another run in the top of the fourth, but Ecclesia scored three more times to tie the game at 7-7. Lyon College added another run in the top of the fifth inning and Ecclesia answered in the bottom half with a single run to tie the game at 8-8.
In the top of the sixth, the Scots took a one-run lead and added three more runs in the top of the seventh to go up 12-8, but Ecclesia made it close with three runs in the bottom of the seventh before the final out was recorded.
Brianna Morquecho was at-bat five times, scored twice and had four hits with three runs batted in.
Sophie Varela had five at-bats, scored three times and two hits with one run batted in.
Anna Voth had four at-bats with one run scored, two hits and two runs batted in.
MK Duffield had five at-bats, scored once, with three hits and two runs-batted in.
Olivia Orf was at bat three times and had one hit.
Georgia Holzer, the winning pitcher, had four at-bats, scored twice, off of two hits and had two runs batted-in.
Callie Marberry was at bat four times with one hit and Emily Martinez had three at-bats with two runs scored off of one hit.
Skyler Forman was at bat twice with one hit and one run batted in.
Ashley Abel had one bat and hit a home run.
And Ohnrie Bergam was a pinch runner and scored a run.
Holzer had six strike outs in the win.
In the second game, the Scots started of with a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Ecclesia scored three runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Lyon College opened the second inning with six runs to go up 9-3 and Ecclesia answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to make it a 9-5 Scots lead.
Ecclesia added another run in the bottom of the third inning, but Lyon answered with one run in the top of the fourth to lead 10-6.
Ecclesia added another run in the bottom of the fifth to close the lead to 10-7, but exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to clinch the win 17-10.
Morquecho had three at-bats, scored twice and had one hit which was a double. Varela had four at-bats, scored two runs, had one hit and two RBIs. Voth was at bat three times with two runs scored . Duffield was at bat four times with one run scored and two hits and one RBI. Abel was 1-fo-4 at the plate with one run scored and three runs batted in.
Foremna had three at-bats and walked in a run. Orf was at bat one time and scored once and walked once. Marberry was at bat three times and scored a run. Fallon Lancaster was at bat twice and one hit and one RBI. Soni Beene was at bat once, Rebecca Rodriguez was at bat twice and had one hit and one RBI. Reece Montgomery was at bat once and Kennedy Cox was at bat once in the game.
Madison DeRoussel suffered the loss for the Scots and went 5.1 innings. She gave up 14 runs off of 15 hits and walked five batters. Abel came in to pitch .2 innings and gave up two runs on three hits while walking one.
Four Scots’ men’s basketball players score in double-figures in 81-70 win at Fontbonne
ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Frank Toney scored 21 points, Kylon McCullough added 18 points, Colbie West scored 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Malik Madison put in 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lyon College Scots past Fontbonne 81-70 on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (14-7, 11-3) were behind 42-34 at halftime, but came back to outscore Fontbonne 47-28 in the second half to take the victory. Johnzelle Bush added nine points, Trent Bell scored three points and John Paul Morgan had two points. Kennedy Warren, Tucker Cunningham and Hudson Rogers played in the game, but did not score.
The Scots shot 51.5 percent from the field. They had a 44.12 percentage after the first half, but made 19-of-32 shots in the second 20 minutes to go 59.38 percent from the field. For the game, Lyon College hit 3-of-12 three-pointers and made 10 of 15 free throws.
The game was tied twice and there was one lead change.
The Scots scored 58 points in the paint, had 13 points off of Fontbonne turnovers, scored four second-chance points, made 30 fast-break points and got 14 points from the bench.
Fontbonne led most of the first half until West hit a jumper at the 13:20 mark to tie the game at 14-14. Fontbonne led by 11 points four different times in the first half and led by eight at the break.
Fontbonne led 44-34 early in the second half, but the Scots came back to take a one-point lead, 45-44 on a layup by Bush with 14:48 to go in the game. The run continued for Lyon College to a nine point lead, 53-44 on a Toney layup. Fontonne came back to get within three points twice, but a fast-break layup by McCullough, two layups from West and a three-point play by Madison made for an eight-point lead 67-59 with 3:57 go play.
A jumper from Toney and a free throw from West made it 74-64 with 1:05 left. McCullough made two free throws, Toney put in a layup and McCullough made two more free throws to make it 80-68 with 27 second remaining.
Scots women’s basketball falls at Fontbonne 78-70
ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Natalya Kaza scored 24 points and had 12 rebounds, and Savanna Lopez had 17 points and 13 rebounds in a 78-70 loss at Fontbonne on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (7-14, 4-10) fell behind 18-12 in the first quarter and trailed 39-34 at halftime. Lyon College outscored Fontbonne 21-20 in the third quarter to close the gap to 59-55. In the fourth period, the Scots tied the game on a Kaza jumper at 63-63 with 6:43 to go in the game, but Fontbonne went on a 9-0 run to go up 72-63.
Lopez also eclipsed the block shot record at Lyon College in the Scots last game against Principia with 142 and she added two more in Saturday’s game to have a total of 144 blocked shots for her career. The Lyon College record for blocked shots in a career was 141 by former Scots player Mary Blake (1997-2001).
In the game against Fontbonne, Haven Cooper also scored in double-figures with 11 points and eight rebounds. Dalye Hambelton had six points and Emily Walley had four points, Savannah Stout, Jewel Walley, Molly Mason and Alexis Shelton added two points each.
The Scots scored 30 points in the paint, had six points off of turnovers, 20 second-chance points, 10 fast-break points and got 19 points from the bench.
The score was tied 10 times, and there were three lead changes.
Lyon College shot 35 percent from the field, hit 4-of-23 three-pointers and made 14 of 19 free throws.
Kaza gave the Scots the initial lead with a three-pointer, but Fontbonne came back to lead 4-3 on free throws. Hambelton made a three-pointer for a 6-4 lead, but Fontbonne came back to tie it on a jumper.
In the second quarter, Kaza completed a three-point play to tie the game 21-21 with 7:11 to go before halftime. Seconds later, Kaza made a layup to tie the game at 23-23.
Cooper’s basket with 8:59 to go in the third quarter tied the game at 39-39. Seconds later, Lopez hit a jumper to make it 41-41. At the 5:32 mark of the third quarter, Lopez made a jumper for a 46-46 tie and Emily Walley tied the game at 49-49 with 3:18 to go in the period.
Kaza tied the game at 61-61 on a layup off a fast-break with 8:18 left in the game, then tied the game again at 63-63 with 6:43 to go.
Scots break three more indoor school records at Jim Green Invite
JACKSONVILLE, Illinois — Lyon College Track & Field returns home from Illinois College’s 2025 Dr. Jim Green Invitational.
Three more indoor school records were broken by the Scots this weekend, as James McNew broke his own record in the indoor men’s 3000-meter run with a time of 9:45.22, Olivia Letkey set a new indoor women’s 3000-meter run with a time of 12:02.41, and the Scots men’s 4×400 relay team set a new indoor record with a time of 3:50.49

Lyon College Archers compete at Indoor Archery Nationals
HATTIESBURG, Mississippi – Lyon College Archers found success after completing the ranking round at the 56th Annual USA Archery Indoor Nationals in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on Thursday and Friday.
At the end of four hours of shooting 300 arrows, scores were tabulated and ranking for the next round of competition were earned.
Finishing spots for the Lyon College archers were as follows:
Delacey Kell for U21 ranked third and fourth for collegiate women’s compound.
Anthony Schaible shot in the men’s division compound class earning a ranking of first place for U21, and second place in the collegiate division.
Bare bow recurve archer, Seth Moore, had the same ranking of third in both divisions after completing his 300 arrows.
Lyon College archers, Maggie Mason and Kaitlyn Lucio, competed in the women’s fixed pin division of the competition with Mason earning a ranking of third in the U21 and fifth in collegiate women. Lucio finished the ranking with a fourth place ranking and a seventh place in the U21 and collegiate categories.
The team will return to the Ben Waddle Arena in Hattiesburg, again today for the next round round of competition, which will include another 300 arrows.
Toney, Bush lead Lyon College past Principia
ELSAH, Illinois – Frank Toney scored 18 points and Johnzelle Bush scored 14 to lead the Lyon College Scots past Principia 70-67 on Thursday night in Illinois.
The Scots (13-7, 10-3) led 29-25 at halftime and held off a late rally by Principia to win with Toney’s free throws in the final seconds. Principia missed two three-pointers that would have tied the game in the final 21 seconds thanks to the defensive pressure of Lyon.
Malik Madison scored nine points, Colbie West had eight points and seven rebounds, Kennedy Warren added five points, Kylon McCullough added four points, Trent Bell hit for six points, John Paul Morgan had three points and six rebounds and Tucker Cunningham had three points. Luke Bridges played in the game and did not score.
The Scots shot 46.6 percent from the field, they made 5-of-16 three-pointers and hit 11 of 15 free throws. Lyon scored 34 points in the paint, had 21 points off of 15 Principia turnovers, scored 13 second-chance points, had nine points off of fast-breaks and got 26 points from the bench.
The score was tied one time, but the Scots never trailed in the game.
Toney started the game with two jumpers for a 4-0 Lyon College lead. McCullough put in two baskets, then Toney, West and Bush scored to make it 14-7. A few minutes later, Bush made a three-pointer to put the Scots up 21-11. Bush made a second three-pointer and Madison put in two free throws with 6:46 left in the first half. Lyon didn’t score again until Kennedy completed a three-point play with 1:23 to go in the half to make it 29-23.
Principia tied the game at 29-29 early in the second half, but West hit a free throw and Toney hit a three-pointer. Warren scored and Madison put in a layup before Principia scored again. A dunk from Madison and a layup by Madison made it 41-33 with 15:21 to go in the game.
Madison and Toney scored to put the Scots up by 11 points, but Principia cut the lead to four points with 12:55 to go, 44-40.
Lyon went on another run with Bell hitting on a layup, Toney knocked down a three-pointer and put in a layup, Bush scored and Bell put in another layup to make it 55-40 with 8:49 remaining.
West made two free throws and Bell scored again to keep the lead at 15 points for Lyon with 6:33 left, 59-44. A few seconds later, the lead went to 16 points when Cunningham made a three-pointer. It was the largest lead of the game for Lyon College, 62-46.
Principia came back to cut the Scots lead to one point with 37 seconds left in the game, 68-67, but Toney made two free throws in the final 29 seconds and Principia missed two three-pointers, the last of which was rebounded by West to end the game.
Principia defeats Lyon College women 93-77 in Elsah, Illinois
ELSAH, Illinois – Natalya Kaza scored 21 points, Savanna Lopez added 16 points and Haven Cooper put in a season-high 15 points in a 93-77 loss at Principia on Thursday night in Illinois.
The Scots (7-13, 4-9) fell behind 26-16 after the first quarter and trailed 50-37 at halftime. Principia outscored Lyon 26-20 in the third quarter to go up 76-57. The Scots outscored Principia 20-17 in the fourth quarter.
Molly Mason added eight points, Dalye Hambelton added three points, Emily Walley hit for six points, Savannah Stout scored five points, Jewel Walley added three points, while Olivia Jones didn’t score, but had five rebounds. Izabel Soto and Olivia Wallace played in the game and did not score.
Lyon College shot 44.8 percent from the field, hit only three-of-11 three-pointers and made 14 of 24 free throws. The Scots never led in the game. They scored 32 points in the paint, got 12 points off of turnovers, had 10 second-chance points, hit seven fast-break points and had 29 points come from the bench.
The Scots got as close as 14 points in the fourth quarter, 78-64 on a jumper by Kaza with 8:30 to go and a few minutes later cut the Principia lead to 13 points on a basket from Lopez. Lopez hit a basket with 1:20 to go to make it 91-77.
Lyon trailed Principia by as much as 23 points in the third quarter, 69-46.
