
Myrtle McGinnis, 85, of Newport, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 21, 2025. She was born on June 13, 1939, in Tuckerman, Arkansas, to George and Hazel (Faulkner) Poskey.
Myrtle was a woman of faith, love, and resilience. As a devoted member of Murphy’s Corner Baptist Church, she cherished her church family and found great comfort in her faith. She lived a life filled with warmth and generosity, always putting others before herself.
She had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. Myrtle loved spending time outdoors, whether it was fishing on a quiet afternoon or enjoying the thrill of hunting. She also had a passion for reading, always eager to immerse herself in a good book. One of her greatest joys was the Thanksgiving holiday—she cherished the tradition of gathering with family, sharing laughter, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Myrtle was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. McGinnis was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Richard Taylor; her grandson, Sonny Jones; her brothers, Lynn Ray Poskey and Billy Joe Poskey; her sisters, Nellie Gullett and George Ann Stephens.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Joseph L. McGinnis; her step-son, Randy McGinnis of Lafayette, Indiana; her daughters, Rebecca Jones of Newport, and Mellisa Robertson of Rosie; her brother, Sam Poskey of Tuckerman; her sisters, Eva Lou Stephens of Rock Island, Illinois, and Peggy Burgess of Newport; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, six great great-grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends.
Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on February 25, 2025, at Watson Cemetery.
