White sets new school record; results from 2025 Harding Invitational

SEARCY, Arkansas- Lyon College Track & Field competed at the Harding University 2025 Bison Invitational over the weekend.

The meet, which took place over two days, began on Friday, March 7, and ran through March 8 at Harding University’s Ted Lloyd Track in Searcy. It was also the first of the Scots’ 2025 Outdoor season.
Freshman Emmanuel White set a new school record for Lyon College Track & Field, recording a time of 59.94 in the Men’s 400-meter Hurdles event.

Men’s Javelin
– Jakobe Alcorn finished 18th with a mark of 36.22
– Gabriel Morris finished 21st with a mark of 31.41
– Michael Woods-Caw finished 22nd with a mark of 25.83

Women’s Long Jump
– Lakendra Bishop finished 17th with a mark of 4.44
– Lana Ballard finished 18th with a mark of 4.43
– Olivia Letkey finished 20th with a mark of 4.11

– Michael Woods-Caw finished 12th with a mark of 5.73

The Scot’s Track & Field teams will return to action on Thursday, March 20, and then travel to Ouachita Baptist University.

Scots split double-header at Crowley’s Ridge.

PARAGOULD, Arkansas – The Lyon College Scots softball team split a doubleheader on Saturday at Crowley’s Ridge.

The Scots (3-8) won the first game 7-5 and dropped the second game 5-3.

In the first game, Crowley’s Ridge led 2-0 before Skylar Foreman doubled to right field to bring in MK Duffield in the top of the third inning. Anna Voth singled to right center to bring in Foreman to tie the game 2-2.

Crowley’s Ridge went up 5-2 through the fifth inning, but Gabby Thomas singled to bring in Voth in the top of the sixth inning. Georgia Holzer singled to right center to bring in Thomas, and Ohnrie Bergman went to third base on the play. Duffield hit a sacrifice grounder to first, but Bergman scored to tie the game 5-5. Rebecca Rodriguez doubled to right center to bring in Holzer and put Lyon College up 6-5.
In the top of the seventh inning, Ashley Abel reached first on an error, and Voth scored to make it 7-5.

Holzer picked up her third win by pitching seven complete innings. She gave up 11 hits and five runs, four of which were earned, and walked four batters of the 36 she faced.

Ohnrie was 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored and a walk, Holzer was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one run batted in, Duffield was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Foreman was 1-for-3 with one run scored, one RBI and one walk, Orf was 0-for-4, Voth was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, one RBI and two walks, Callie Marberry was 1-for-3, Gabby Thomas was 1-for-3 with one run scored. One RBI and Abel was 0-for-1 in the game.

Rodriguez had two doubles in the game, and Foreman had one double. Bergman had two stolen bases, Holzer stole a base, Voth stole a base, and Thomas had a steal. The Scots turned two double-plays in the game.

The Scots lost the second game but fought back to make it close. CRC led 1-0 through the top of the third inning when Lyon College scored three runs. The Scots scored another run in the top of the seventh after Crowley’s Ridge went up 5-2.

Bergman was 1-for-4 with one run scored, Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with one hit and one RBI, Duffield was 1-for-3 with one hit and one RBI, Foreman was 1-for-3 with one hit, Voth was 0-for-3, Orf was 0-for-2, Abel was 0-for-1, Marberry was 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI, Fallon Lancaster was 1-for-2 with one run scored, Emily Martinez was 0-for-1 and Thomas was 1-for-3 with one hit.

Duffield and Thomas had doubles in the second game, and Thomas had a stolen base.

Sydney Lasher was the losing pitcher for the Scots. She went six innings, gave up 11 hits, five runs, walked one and struck out four.

Lyon College baseball takes both games against Crowley’s Ridge

BATESVILLE, Arkansas — Game one of Lyon College baseball’s doubleheader against Crowley’s Ridge College last Monday began with first pitch commencing at 1:00 PM from Fred Wann Field, with the Scots prevailing 4-0 off a brilliant start by right-handed pitcher Conrad Muir.

Muir went the distance, pitching all seven innings in the game, giving up zero runs while holding the Pioneers to just three hits. The freshman from Frisco, Texas, also struck out one batter while walking one.

Offensively for the Scots, freshman third baseman Landon Swallow opened the scoring with a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning, with Kooper McCoy and Eli Marcotte scoring on the hit.

At the bottom of the second, Andrew James scored when Walker Smith smacked an RBI single into left field, scoring 3-0. The Scots capped off their 4-0 victory when McCoy brought in Marcotte off an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.

Lyon College had six total hits in the game, with Marcotte being the lone Scot with multiple hits (2). McCoy, Swallow, Walker, and Garrett Graef also had hits in the game.

Swallow also led the Scots with two RBIs, while McCoy and Smith each had one RBI.

Game two of the doubleheader began shortly after 3 p.m., and saw the Scots win thrillingly, walking off for the second time in the last five games.

The Scots fell early in the game when Crowley’s Ridge jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Pioneers were also able to tackle on another run in the top of the second, leading Lyon College 3-0 going into the bottom of the frame.
Swallow responded by smashing his first collegiate home run over the left field wall, bringing in Ashton Compton to make the score 3-2. The Scots tied the game later in the inning when Zach Holte scored from third base on a balk.

Lyon College took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third inning, when Smith brought in Compton and McCoy on a two-run double, making the score 5-3. They tacked on another run later in the inning when Swallow scored on a deep sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of James.

Crowley’s Ridge scored another run in the top of the fourth off a sacrifice fly, as the Scots still led 6-4 going into the fifth frame.

Swallow responded with no-doubt solo blast over the left field wall for his second home run of the game, increasing the Scots lead to 7-4.

Crowley’s Ridge battled back in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs to take back the lead against the Scots, leaving Lyon College trailing 8-7 going into the bottom of the final frame.

Logan Lightner started the Scots’ rally with a pinch hit RBI single into right field, scoring pinch runner Misael Santiago from third base to tie the game, 8-8.

The Scots walked the game off when Slade Inman reached first base on an error by Crowley’s Ridge, with Compton scoring from third base and securing the 9-8 victory for Lyon College.

Jonah Wilkerson started game two on the mound for the Scots, going one and one-thirds of an inning, giving up three runs on two hits. The freshman also struck out one batter while walking one.
Sophomore right-hander Carter Sprague came in relief of Wilkerson, pitching two and one-thirds of an inning, giving up one run on a single hit. He also walked three batters while striking out one.

Senior Tyler Davis also pitched for the Scots in the game, going two and one-thirds of an inning, giving up two runs on three hits. Davis also struck out two batters in his appearance.

Kenny Jennings came into the game at the top of the seventh inning, going two-thirds of an inning and giving up two runs on two hits. He also walked on Pioneer in the appearance.

The winning pitcher, Parker Paschal, came in relief of Jennings later in the inning, going one-third of an inning, giving up no runs or hits.

The Scots will return to action next Tuesday, March 11, when they travel to Hendrix College for a nine-inning ballgame in Conway. The first pitch for that game is slated for 6 p.m.
