Obituary: James W. “Jay” Furnatter Jr.

J. W. (Jay) Furnatter, 84, of Weiner, Arkansas, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at his home. He was born in Harrisburg, Arkansas, on December 7, 1940, and lived most of his life in Weiner and Harrisburg.

Jay was retired from Riceland Foods in Weiner after 35 years of service, with several years as branch manager over locations in Poinsett and Cross counties. After retirement from Riceland, he worked as a grain/rice inspector for several different companies along the ports of the Mississippi and Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Jay had a love for traveling, fishing, and photography. He fished locally and made several road trips to Canada to fish. His other love was taking pictures of birds and other wildlife, especially in Alaska.

Jay was preceded in death by his mother and father, Wilford and Irene (Spencer) Furnatter of Weiner, and one brother, Bobby Furnatter of Harrison, Arkansas.

He is survived by one brother, Javaine (Sue) Furnatter of Jonesboro, and one sister, Martha Furnatter of Weiner. He is also survived by his good friend, Bill Roberts, who was as close as a brother.

A graveside service will be held in the Weiner (Oak Grove) Cemetery on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 2 p.m. For a lasting memorial, please consider the Weiner Cemetery, the Weiner Fire Department, or St. Jude. Arrangements are by Jackson’s Funeral Home.
