The Southside City Council convened Tuesday night for its regular meeting. Road concerns and multiple rezoning ordinances were among the items on the agenda.
Street and road updates
The council addressed multiple street concerns, particularly in response to recent rainfall. Officials noted issues on Ring Road, with the county agreeing to assist in repairs. Additional reports highlighted drainage problems affecting local streets, currently under review for possible Environmental Protection Agency compliance concerns.
Other street-related discussions included a request for work on Mobby and Bobby lanes and the need for a new stop sign on Runway Road.
Rezoning ordinances approved
The Southside Planning Commission submitted recommendations for rezoning three properties, all of which received council approval:
- A property on Scott Drive was rezoned from R-1 to R-3 residential.
- A property on 52 Camp Tahkodah Drive was rezoned from R-1 to R-3 residential.
A property at 2522 Batesville Blvd. was rezoned from R-1 - residential to C-2 general commercial.
New business
A representative from the Arkansas State Police requested office space within a city building for investigative use, particularly for cases related to the Crimes Against Children Division. Council member Colyn Bowman emphasized the benefits of having investigators in the community. The council approved the request, granting office space in the Southside City Hall building at no charge.
Bid opening for vacant house
Regarding the bid opening for a vacant house at 2470 Batesville Blvd., no bids have been received so far. Bids will be taken until April 1. If no offers are received, officials will proceed with an itemized list of salvageable materials to auction. For more information on the property, visit cityofsouthside.org.
Financial report
City officials reported that American Rescue Plan Act funds have been entirely spent, with $826,000 allocated, while sales tax revenue for the month totaled $87,413.
