Cherry Clark Walker of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born July 17, 1947, in Newport, the daughter of Marshall McKay Clark and Tinnie (Evins) Clark.
Cherry was a 1965 graduate of Newport High School. She married Mr. Dean Walker on June 14, 1969, and he preceded her in death on September 30, 1976. Following Dean’s death, Cherry devoted her life to raising their three daughters.
Family was always at the center of her world, and she enjoyed a close relationship with her daughters, grandchildren, sisters, brother, sisters and brothers-in-law, and her nieces and nephews, and loved them all dearly. Cherry was a nurturing and loving person who deeply cared for her family and friends. Many of her daughter’s friends considered her a second mother because she welcomed them into her home and treated them with loving care.
Cherry enjoyed cooking for her family, solving crossword puzzles, and sewing, creating many sets of curtains and pillowcases over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Walker; one brother, Harold Sutherland; four sisters, Marquilla Lewis, Jean Goodman, Lola Baker, and Roberta Pulliam; and her parents.
Cherry is survived by her three daughters, Dr. Kim Walker Kerr of Carmel, Indiana, Kelly Walker of Newport, and Kay Walker Pate of Newport; seven grandchildren who lovingly called her Memaw, Emma Jackson, Anna Jackson, Ella Howard, Evin Woodruff, Oliver Kerr, Caroline Kerr, and Henry Kerr; two sisters, Dorothy Burgess and husband, Donald of Newport, and Shirley Heatherly and husband, Jimmy of Newport; a brother-in-law, Curley Lewis of Newport; many nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Walnut Grove Cemetery with Judge Jeff Phillips officiating.
