The Independence County Extension Agency has launched the Farm Strong: Rebuilding Fences & Cleanup Initiative in response to recent tornadoes that devastated agricultural communities.

According to Michelle Mobley with the Independence County Extension Office, the program seeks to assist farmers in repairing fences and clearing debris from pastures.

The initiative calls on community members to volunteer their time or donate essential supplies to help those affected by the storms. Volunteers can sign up to assist with farm repairs or refer farmers in need by contacting the Independence County Extension Office at (870) 793-8840 or emailing  Mobley at mmobley@uada.edu.

Donations of farm repair supplies are also being accepted at local White River Area Agency on Aging offices. Requested items include barbed wire, T-post clips, work gloves, chainsaw oil, tarps, T-posts, and water tanks.

“Let’s come together to support our farming communities during this challenging time. Whether you volunteer your skills or donate much-needed supplies, every bit helps,” Mobley said in a statement.

Community members looking to participate can contact the Independence County Extension Office for further details.
