Scots softball drops doubleheader to Rhodes College

The Lyon College Scots dropped a non-conference doubleheader to visiting Rhodes College 10-5 and 10-1 at Howard and Mary House Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Scots (3-12) led 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning in the first game. Sophie Varela singled to start the inning and advanced to second on an error by the Rhodes College second baseman. Brianna Morquecho grounded out to the shortstop, and Varela advanced to third base. MK Duffield doubled to left-center field to bring Varela for a 1-0 Lyon College lead.

Rhodes came back to score four runs in the top of the third inning to lead 4-1. The Scots cut the lead in half 4-2 when Sydney Lasher doubled to left field, and Anna Voth singled her in in the bottom of the fifth.

Rhodes scored three more runs in the top of the 6th and three in the top of the 7th to lead 10-2.

At the bottom of the 7th, Olivia Orf was single to the left field, and Gabby Thomas came in to run for her. Varela singled and advanced to second on an error, and Thomas scored. Morquecho singled to left center, and Varela scored. Duffield doubled down the right field line to score Morquecho, making it 10-5.

In the second game, Rhodes took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and sent up 5-0 in the top of the third inning.

Orf led off the Scots’ half of the third inning with a double to right field. She advanced to third on a groundout by Ohnrie Bergman and scored on a Varela single to make it 5-1.

Rhodes added two more runs in the top of the 7-1 and put another run in the top of the fifth to make it 8-1. Rhodes added two more runs in the top of the sixth to go up 10-1.

To end the game, Lyon College went three up and three down in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Lasher came in the game to relieve Georgia Holzer and took the loss in game one. Lasher started the second game on the mound, and Madison DeRoussel came in to relieve her.

Lyon College hosts a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 25 against the University of the Ozarks.

Lyon College baseball drops SLIAC doubleheader at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ken. – The Lyon College Scots baseball team dropped a SLIAC doubleheader to the host Spalding University Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Derby City Field in Louisville.

The Scots (8-10, 0-2) lost the first game 15-5 and fell in the second game 22-5.

In the first game, Spalding led 2-0 until the top of the second inning when Andrew James flew out to right field for a sacrifice fly that brought in Eli Marcotte to make it 2-1. Lyon College didn’t score again in the top of the seventh inning, trailing 12-1. Slade Inman doubled to left center field to bring in Kooper McCoy and Braden Bramlett, and then Hendrix singled to right field to score Inman. Hendrix advanced to second on a wild pitch, and Marcotte scored to make it 12-5.

Spalding added three more runs in the bottom half of the seventh to end the game 15-5.

Patrick Babcock lost in game one, going 3.1 innings and giving up eight hits and nine runs from the 19 batters he faced. Connor Taylor came in to pitch 1.2 innings and gave up one hit and three runs while striking out two of the nine batters he faced. Tyler Campbell came in for an inning, allowed two runs on two hits, and struck out one of the seven batters he faced. Nick Dennington pitched for an out and gave up a run with two walks and a wild pitch, and Joe Galay came in and gave up one hit of the batter he faced.

In the second game, Spalding led 4-0 before the Scots scored in the top of the second inning. Inman doubled down the right field line and scored Ashton Compton. Walker Smith singled to left field to bring in Landon Swallow and Inman, Hendrix singled through the left side to score Bramlett, and McCoy reached on a fielder’s choice that scored on Smith to put Lyon College ahead 5-4.

Spalding hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second to retake the lead, 8-4, and added another homer in the bottom of the third. Spalding scored three more runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. They secured the win with an 8-run bottom of the sixth.

The Scots will be home for a SLIAC doubleheader on Tuesday, March 25, against the Greenville Panthers at Fred Wann Field.

Lyon College men’s and women’s outdoor track participate in Ouachita Baptist University Invitational

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Lyon College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams participated in the Ouachita Baptist University Invitational on Thursday in Arkadelphia at the Hickingbotham Family Track and Field Complex.

In track events:
Men’s 3000 meter steeple chase – Daniel Thomas finished 8th with a time of 12:07.62; Noah Cordes finished 9th in a time of 12:27.07

Women’s 4×100 meter relay – Lyon A (Emely Alvarenga, Lana Ballard, Lakendra Bishop, and Brianna Krantz) finished third out of four in a time of 52.38

Men’s 4×100 meter relay – Lyon A (Emmanuel White, Michael Woods-Caw, Gabriel Morris, and Xiyiah Spencer-Cole) finished second in a time of 46.51.

Men’s 110-meter hurdles – Jakobe Alcorn was 7th in a time of 18.51
Women’s 400 meters – Lakendra Bishop was 8th in a time of 1:08.06, Alora Huver was 10th in a time of 1:12.21

Men’s 400 meters – Emmanuel White was 5th in a time of 52.07, Andrew Hernandez was 8th in a time of 57.14, Sawyer Seat was 11th in a time of 1:01.58

Women’s 100 meters – Lana Ballard was 9th in a time of 13.16, Emely Alvarenga was 13th in a time of 13.50

Men’s 100 meters – Gabriel Morris was 14th in a time of 11.84

Women’s 800 meters – Brianna Krantz was 24th in a time of 2:51.12

Men’s 800 meters – Andrew Hernandez was 24th in a time of 2:27.91, Timothy Brady was 25th in a time of 2:29.09

Women’s 200 meters – Lana Ballard was 12th in a time of 28.07, Lakendra Bishop was 14th in a time of 28.78, Emely Alvarenga was 15th in a time of 28.83, Alora Huver was 19th in a time of 31.04

Men’s 200 meters – Emmanuel White was 7th in a time of 23.47, Gabriel Morris was 13th in a time of 24.63

Men’s 5000 meters – James McNew finished 20th in a time of 16:37.15
Women’s 4×400 meter relay – Lyon A (Lana Ballard, Lakendra Bishop, Brianna Krantz, and Olivia Letkey) finished 5th in a time of 4:35.48

Men’s 4×400 meter relay – Lyon A (Jakobe Alcorn, Emmanuel White, Sawyer Seat, and Xiyiah Spencer-Cole) finished 6th in a time of 3:50.06

Field events:
Men’s Javelin – Jakobe Alcorn was 8th with 34.23 meters, Gabriel Morris was 12th with 29.56 meters, Michael Woods-Caw was 14th with 25.76 meters, Chance Wheeler was 15th with 17.31 meters

Women’s Javelin – Aziza Takhi was 13th with 20.78 meters, and Taja Showers was 15th with 15.69 meters.

Men’s Discus – John Paul Morgan was 7th with 41.11 meters, Sean Hall was 16th with 23.55 meters, and Gavin Brunson was 17th with 20.42 meters.s

Women’s Discus – Aziza Takhi was 13th with 20.78 meters, and Taja Showers was 15th with 15.69 meters.

Women’s Shot Put – Aziza Takhi was 12th with 8.14 meters, and Taja Showers was 15th with 7.00 meters.

Men’s Shot Put – John Paul Morgan was 1st with 14.20 meters, Sean Hall was 13th with 9.00 meters, and Gavin Brunson was 14th with 8.88 meters.

Women’s Long Jump – Lakendra Bishop was 17th with 4.50 meters, and Lana Ballard was 18th with 4.24 meters.
Men’s Long Jump – Michael Woods-Caw was 10th with 5.53 meters, Ashton Dunn was 12th with 5.01 meters, Sean Hall was 13th with 4.88 meters, and Chance Wheeler was 14th with 4.41 meters.s

Men’s High Jump – Jakobe Alcorn was 2nd with 1.77 meters, Sawyer Seat was 3rd with 1.72 meters, and Noah Cordes was 4th with 1.67 meters.

Scots women finish sixth at CBC Invite

CABOT, Ark. – The Lyon College women’s golf team finished sixth overall in last week’s Central Baptist College Invitational held at Cypress Creek in Cabot.

As a team, the Scots shot a 138 in round one and a 128 in round two for a 266.

In round 2 of the tournament, Madison Robb had a par on two, birdied holes three and four, and parred five, 13, 16, and 18 to finish with a 90.

Jesi Odom parred holes three, five, 12, and 13 for a 95.

Zoe Anderson parred hole 13 and had a 106 on the day.

Keylee Lyons parred hole one and finished with a 125.
