
Freda Joyce (Mullins) Scoggins of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the age of 79. She was born April 1, 1946, the daughter of Albert “Earl” and Della Mae (Arter) Mullins.
Mrs. Scoggins was a 1965 graduate of Newport High School. She married Mr. Wayne Scoggins on February 24, 1967, and together they shared fifty-eight years. Mrs. Scoggins began working at Pinedale Nursing Home as a Certified Nursing Assistant and later moved to the position of Activity Director for over thirty years. She was a member of the Surrounded Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Scoggins was an avid reader and also enjoyed traveling with her family. She loved camping at Gunner Pool while spending time in Mountain View and always enjoyed beach trips with her girls. Mrs. Scoggins’ greatest joy in life was the memories made with her loved ones.
Mrs. Scoggins is preceded in death by an infant son, John Wesley Scoggins; three sisters, Brenda Mullins, Lawanda Mullins Cornwell, and Reda Cornwell; and her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Scoggins, of the home; a son, Keith Wayne Scoggins and wife, Brook, of Newport; her daughter, Beverly Balentine and husband, Dewayne, of Southside; bonus daughter, Carol Clark, of Newport; two brothers, Albert Mullins and wife, JoAnn, of Lake City and Alvin Mullins and wife, Becky, of Foley, Alabama; a sister, Beulah Whaley, of Newport; five grandchildren, Connor Balentine, Caitlin Balentine, Abby Scoggins, Avery Scoggins, and Ally Scoggins; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Jason Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Maple Springs Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday evening, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Stan Haigwood, James Langston, David Anderson, Connor Balentine, Avery Scoggins, Malcolm Haigwood. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Haigwood, Dewayne Balentine, and Lance Ritter.
