A group of Lyon College students, including members of the Scots softball team, spent their spring break assisting with cleanup efforts in Cave City and surrounding areas following recent tornadoes.
The volunteer effort was organized by Lyon College Chaplain and Director of Service Maggie Alsup in partnership with Eight Days of Hope, a national disaster relief organization. Volunteers focused on recovery work such as debris removal, tree cutting and home restoration assistance.
The Scots softball team dedicated their time to helping a local family dismantle a barn that was destroyed in the storms. The student-athletes worked together to take down walls and roofing, sorting materials for disposal or potential reuse.
“We prayed together, laughed together, lifted together and served together,” Alsup said. “I’m incredibly grateful to our softball team for their service before heading off to play six games.”
In addition to the softball team, members of the Student Life staff also joined the relief effort.
Eight Days of Hope, a national organization that mobilizes volunteers to help communities recover from disasters, has played a key role in assisting families affected by the storms in Cave City.
The volunteer work by Lyon College students and staff reflects the school’s commitment to fostering a culture of compassion and community engagement.
