The Cedar Ridge School District has named Elizabeth Callahan as its 2025 Teacher of the Year, honoring the middle school math teacher for her dedication, leadership, and commitment to student success.
Callahan, who has taught math at the middle school level for the past five years, was recognized for creating a classroom environment grounded in respect, structure, and high expectations. District officials praised her as a valuable asset to the Cedar Ridge community.
“Mrs. Callahan fosters a classroom culture that promotes both academic achievement and mutual respect,” the district said in a statement. “Her commitment to excellence makes her a huge asset to Cedar Ridge.”
Colleagues who nominated Callahan for the award highlighted her work ethic, positive demeanor, and student-centered approach.
“Elizabeth continually exemplifies what it means to be a teacher,” one nomination read. “Elizabeth is always willing to help others accomplish any task. Her positive attitude and hard work ethic makes her a role-model not for just her peers, but also for her students. Elizabeth’s consistent positive attitude and dedication to her profession reflect highly upon her, and to the profession of teaching. ”
Another nominator described her classroom as “an inviting place for students to learn and succeed,” while another one said that Callahan “pushes her students to learn new things and intervenes when they don’t achieve mastery.”
Merchants and Planters Bank sponsored this year’s award. Callahan was recognized in a presentation alongside High School Principal Chris Davis and Superintendent Roger Ried.
The Teacher of the Year award is given annually to an educator who demonstrates outstanding dedication, innovation, and leadership within the Cedar Ridge School District.
