
Jean (Shaver) Gibbs of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the age of 75. She was born March 14, 1950, in Bremerhaven, Germany, the daughter of Carlos Earl and Lillian Vallie (Long) Shaver.
Mrs. Gibbs was a 1968 graduate of Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia. She later earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Newport Hospital. Mrs. Gibbs was a member of Remmel Church.
Mrs. Gibbs had a special gift for crafting and often crocheted and made plastic canvas art. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing cards with family and friends. Mrs. Gibbs especially loved watching Walker Texas Ranger and listening to Elvis.
Mrs. Gibbs is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Dale Gibbs; a brother, Carlos Earl “Carkey” Shaver, II; and her parents.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Gibbs and wife, Angela, and John Gibbs and wife, Christa, all of Newport; three daughters, Barbara Gibbs, Carla Gibbs, and Linda Gibbs, all of Newport; her twin sister, Sue Snell and husband, Ricky, of Bastrop, Texas; three grandchildren, Ashton Gibbs, Leon Gibbs, and Rose Gibbs; many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Lou Butterfield officiating. Interment will be in Coffeyville Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, April 22, 2025, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jimmy Gibbs, John Gibbs, Ashton Gibbs, Rick Snell, Henry Gibbs, and Harold Gibbs. Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Gibbs and Chris Snell.
In lieu of flowers, the Gibbs family has asked that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, Maryland 21741.
