Billy Herman Britton of Newark, Arkansas, departed this life on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the age of 90. He was born November 7, 1932, in Aguilar, Colorado, the son of William and Louise (Bishop) Britton.
On December 25, 1951, Mr. Billy Britton married Miss Barbara McDoniel, and together they enjoyed 71 years.
Mr. Britton’s love of the outdoors began at a young age, when he worked as a cowboy on the Vega Ranch in Colorado. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and raising animals on his farm. Mr. Britton played guitar and harmonica and was known as quite the practical joker. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Britton was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Madison Bromley; two brothers, Larry Britton and Connor Britton; two sisters, Alice Everett and Iva Lou Smith; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Barbara (McDoniel)Britton of the home; one son, Steven H. Britton and wife Dolores, of Newark; one daughter, Lou Ellen Bromley and husband, Kenneth of Brighton, Colorado; one brother, Jack Britton of Rifle, Colorado; one sister, Shirley Clements and husband, Jerry, of Pueblo, Colorado; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home, Wednesday evening, 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Graveside services are at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Mr. Larry Sellers and Mr. Shane Bromley officiating.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Eric Britton, Travis Bromley, Connor Bromley, Josh Shirley, Shane Bromley, and Pat Hayes. Honorary pallbearers are Wyatt Bromley, Ken Bromley, Wallace McDoniel, Jim McDoniel, and Jack Britton.
