New radar-operated speed limit signs are now being utilized in downtown Batesville.
Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh tells White River Now’s Gary Bridgman the signs can read a vehicle’s speed, display its speed as it passes, particularly helpful if the driver is speeding, and also collect data the city can use to make traffic decisions.
In June of 2022, the Batesville City Council approved the purchase of the signs to assist in controlling speeding in the city. The mayor said the city has multiple pieces of equipment, about a $15,000 investment, and appears to be a good data collection tool.
The mayor said the signs are all movable and currently operating at locations on College, Main, and Boswell streets.
