An Independence County man was arrested on April 28 after a pursuit.

According to the incident report, David Scarbrough, 32, of Batesville, allegedly fled after Independence County Deputy Chris Stump attempted to stop the vehicle Scarbrough was driving. Stump said Scarbrough had rolled through a stop sign at Spring Valley Drive and North Saint Louis Street and then noticed the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup had an expired vehicle license.

The police information said Scarbrough eventually drove into Pfeiffer Creek and continued a short distance before becoming stuck. Deputy Stump said Scarbrough exited the vehicle and fled on foot into nearby woods, where he was located and apprehended a short time later.

Scarbrough’s charges include five felonies and eight misdemeanor traffic violations.

The felonies include two counts of aggravated assault. Stump said Scarbrough slammed his truck into Stump’s police vehicle and also tried to hit Sheriff Shawn Stephens with his pickup during the chase. The other three felony charges include fleeing, possession of meth, which was found in his pickup, and possession of drug paraphernalia, the report said.

Scarbrough’s bond has been set at $50,000.
