Tommy Lee Jones, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, AR, died on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Tommy was born on March 1, 1949, in Lake Village, AR, to the late Elson Jones and Vera Bee (Knight) Jones. He was of Baptist faith. Tommy graduated from Buras High School in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. It was in high school that he met the love of his life, Linda Kaye (Chambers) Jones. They were married in 1969 and have spent more than 53 years together. Tommy was a very hard worker. He worked and paid his own way through college at Southeastern Louisiana University, earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Tommy spent many years working as a supervisor and consultant in the oil field, consulting overseas in Saudi Arabia. After retiring from the oil field, Tommy and Linda moved to Izard County, Arkansas. They settled in the Lafferty community, just outside Mt Pleasant. Tommy loved to work as a cattle rancher. He would spend countless hours tending to the cattle and the farm and enjoyed every minute of it. He and Linda both felt so at home there on the farm and loved the community. Being surrounded by such wonderful neighbors and friends meant a lot to them both. In the end, Tommy was diagnosed with cancer and was given only 3 to 5 years to live, but God gave him 8. Out of all of Tommy’s passions, vocations, and hobbies, nothing meant more to him than family. He was a loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, and friend. He will be loved forever and missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.
Tommy is preceded in death by both of his parents, Elson and Vera Jones; his brother, Jerry Jones; and his sister, Patsy Barnett. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 53 years, Linda Jones, of Mt. Pleasant, AR; his daughter, Pamela Jones Fischer (Clifford) of Greenbrier, AR; his son, Scott Jones, of Mt. Pleasant; and his daughter, Apryl Jones Turnage of Mt. Pleasant, AR; his brother, Bobby Jones (Jane) of Monroe, LA; his sister, Linda Shoutte (Leslie) of Cushman, AR; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
