The Batesville City Council will consider several ordinances at tonight’s meeting, including one for a special election in the city to finance capital improvements and secure the repayment of bonds it will issue.

The proposed tax includes a one-percent sales tax, which would commence on April 1, 2024, to retire the bonds. Another tax, at one-half of one percent (.05%) already levied within the city, will redirect its purpose to the repayment of bonds approved by the voters. The one-percent sales and use tax will be subject to approval by voters in a special election on Aug. 8.

The agenda also includes a proclamation for National Fentanyl Awareness Day. The dangerous drug has surfaced twice in the area recently.

Another ordinance up for consideration relates to an application for a private club permit for “Club Stella,” to be located at 250 Main St. — the address of Stella’s Brick Oven Pizzeria and Bistro.

In addition, the council will hear reports from the police department, city engineer, fire department, and public works.

The Batesville City Council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall at 500 E. Main St. The meeting is open to all citizens.
