A head-on collision in Independence County Wednesday claimed one man’s life while leaving another hospitalized.
According to the Arkansas State Police fatality report, David Hood, 59, of Sulphur Rock, was traveling southbound on Heber Springs Road around 4:20 p.m. when his 2009 GMC Sierra was struck by a northbound 2003 Ford Ranger, driven by Trace Dunavin, 19, of Bald Knob.
The report said Dunavin failed to maintain control of his vehicle and crossed the highway’s center line, striking Hood’s southbound Sierra.
Dunavin was injured in the accident and taken to White River Medical Center in Batesville.
The weather was clear, and the road was dry at the time of the accident, according to the state police.
