A defective firework unit is the likely cause of an accident that left a Cherokee Village volunteer firefighter and a professional fireworks “shooter” slightly injured during Tuesday night’s Fourth of July festivities at Lake Thunderbird.
According to a social media post from Cherokee Village Fire Chief Kat Dienst, the faulty firework failed, causing two other firework units to misfire.
Dienst said the shooter and the firefighter were in close proximity when both were struck. EMS examined both, and no major injuries were reported, the fire chief said.
