Work continues on the new ALDI Grocery Store that will be housed in the former Stage location in Batesville.

The supermarket chain says the Batesville store is still looking at an opening date for sometime in August. Work has been ongoing at the Eagle Mountain Shopping Center location since the beginning of March.

ALDI was started in Germany in the mid-1940s and has had a growing U.S. presence within the past few years.

“The ALDI business model is intentionally different, and everything we do is focused on offering shoppers the best products at the lowest possible prices, every day,” said Rob Jeffries, the O’Fallon division vice president for ALDI, in an email to White River Now. “From our unique business model rooted in simplicity and efficiency to our thoughtful store layouts, everything about ALDI is designed to provide customers the best grocery shopping experience.”

The chain is known for having customers deposit a quarter to use shopping carts and encouraging them to bring their own shopping bags. But ADLI shoppers profess the store’s low prices make up for the somewhat unique characteristics that aren’t found in most supermarkets. According to a 2019 article, the store’s allure is “…all in the rock-bottom prices, which are so cheap that ALDI often beats Walmart at its own low-price game.”

An ALDI spokesperson said more information on the new Batesville location would be released as the store’s opening approaches.
