The City of Batesville will be receiving a new water treatment facility and Riverside Park will have a major upgrade after a series of ballot initiatives were approved by voters in a special election held Tuesday.

The vote will allow the city’s current one-cent sales tax to be extended to help fund the replacement of Batesville’s 1960s-era plant, which is in danger of failure and out of capacity. If the initiative to extend the current one-cent sales tax for the new facility had failed, the city says water bills for Batesville customers would have doubled. The ballot approval will also extend the current half-cent sales tax to allow for Riverside Park to be redeveloped allowing for more recreational opportunities including nature and water play opportunities, a modernized amphitheater, and an events center.
