Storms overnight brought heavy rain, flash flooding, strong winds, and lightning throughout the area.

The online site PowerOutage currently reports over 7,300 Independence County outages. Many businesses and organizations are closed or are delaying opening. Some Entergy Arkansas estimates show a restoration time of 10 p.m. (Please visit the White River Now Facebook page for closings and cancellations.)

Damage has been reported at the Humane Society of Independence County, and Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery says Highway 106 towards Bethesda has numerous limbs down and flooding. Motorists are advised not to travel in this area. Scroll down to watch a video posted on the Humane Society of Independence County’s Facebook page. Volunteers are currently needed to help clean up the damage and help provide animal care.

Downed trees have been reported throughout the county, and flooding has also been reported on Neeley Street in Batesville.

Many trees were downed at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) campus, however  Chancellor Brian Shonk reports the campus is open. Due to the trees and limbs, drivers are asked to use caution when on campus.

No injuries from the storms have been reported by authorities.
