Anita Marie Sutterfield, age 91, of Fox, passed on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, in Mountain View. She was of the Roman Catholic faith. She was born January 24, 1932, in Fox, Arkansas to Matthew and Saly Schiefer. Anita was in the first graduating class of Rural Special (1949) and a member of the first girl’s basketball team at Rural Special.
On June 4, 1949, she married Kenneth Sutterfield of Fox. They traveled around the country for several years while Kenneth was in the Army, and eventually settled in the South Bend, Indiana and Niles, Michigan area, where they raised their family.
Anita worked several jobs then, including office worker and waitress. They retired in 1982 and returned to Fox, where Anita began her ”second career” as relief postmaster at Fox, a position she held for 23 years until she retired.
She is survived by her sons Steven (Brenda) Sutterfield and Scott (Norie) Sutterfield of Fox; Grandsons Michael Sutterfield of North Little Rock; Matthew Rosenhagen (Kelli) of Granger Indiana; and Aaron Rosenhagen of Buchanan Michigan; as well as five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Bernard Schiefer (Ann) of Mission Texas; sister Bernadine Burroughs (John) of Fort Worth Texas; sister Phyllis Flanagan (Ed) of Qulin Missouri and her loving companion Burl Gammill of Fox.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth; daughter Sherri Rosenhagen; granddaughter Nicole Sutterfield and brother Alfred Schiefer.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 26 from 1-2 pm at Roller Crouch Funeral Home, Mountain View, followed by a memorial service from 2-3 pm with Brother Stan Sutterfield officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Michael Sutterfield, Matthew Rosenhagen, Aaron Rosenhagen, Benny Kocher, Michael Schiefer and Marty Berry.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
