Frederick (Fred) Alan Slater, 73, of Mountain View, Arkansas, passed away on August 18th, 2023, at his beloved home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 21st, 1949, in Marion, Indiana to Charles and Sarah Campbell Slater.
Fred was a devoted Christian and of the Pentecostal faith. He was a faithful member of the Sanctuary UPC of Mountain View. Fred proudly served our nation in the United States Air Force for three years, eleven months, and twenty-seven days. More than anything, Fred enjoyed going to church and spending time with family and friends. He also loved singing at the nursing home, piddling around in his shop, reading his bible, looking at antique cars, watching NASCAR (it helped him take his naps), and sitting on his front porch looking at his million-dollar view. Fred was loved by many people and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of thirty-six years, Carol Dean (Teague) Slater of the home; six children, Joshua (Shelbie) Slater of Pleasant Grove, Arkansas, Gary (Lisa) Johnson of Quitman, Arkansas, Joel (Jeanna) Johnson of Cabot, Arkansas, Michael (Rachel) Johnson of Beebe, Arkansas, Monica Okumbor of Mountain View, Arkansas, and Amy Knight of Michigan; one brother, Robert (Char) Gallaway of La Fontaine, Indiana. Fred is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sarah Slater; one sister, Sue Elliot.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Sanctuary UPC of Mountain View. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 2:00 pm. Brother Paul Mize and Brother Ryan Tinkle will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sanctuary UPC of Mountain View for their building fund project.
