Doris Gwinn, 96, of Desha passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023.

She was born January 5, 1927, in Auburn, Illinois to Victor Vanquelif and Georgina Dacbert Vanquelif.

Doris Gwinn, fondly known as “Mamaw,” to her grand and great-grandchildren touched the lives of many with her unwavering faith, dedication to her community, and love for her family. On September 2, 2023, Doris peacefully departed this earthly home, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.

A devoted Christian and prayer warrior, Doris’s life was a testament to her unshakeable faith in God. She consistently demonstrated her devotion by serving as a church leader, guiding and inspiring her congregation with her strong leadership skills and boundless enthusiasm. Her commitment to her role as a Sabbath school teacher further highlighted her passion for sharing the teachings of Christ and nurturing the spiritual growth of those around her.

One of Doris’s most cherished pastimes was writing heartfelt letters. Her letters were a testament to her caring nature and provided a means for her to connect with loved ones near and far. Her words carried warmth and wisdom, offering solace and encouragement to those who received her thoughtful messages.

Survivors include her sons, Daniel Gwinn (Patsy) of Sumter, South Carolina and David Gwinn of Desha; daughter, Diana Heck (Daniel) of Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren, Keith Gwinn, Matthew Gwinn, Teresa Dunn, Jedidiah Gwinn, Terry Davis, Tim Davis, Tracy Stidham, and Danielle White; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Gwinn; and her infant brother.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Heck, Tim Davis, Keith Gwinn, Matthew Gwinn, James Dunn, and Jedidiah Gwinn.

Graveside services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Alderbrook Cemetery in Desha with Laurie DeWitt officiating.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
