Obituary: Dorothy Callahan Pope

Dorothy Callahan Pope, 74, passed away September 20, 2023, surrounded by her loving husband and family. She was born November 6, 1948, to John Archie and Ida Bearl (Branscum) Callahan in Sunnyland, Arkansas. She was the wife to a loving husband, William “Bill” Addis Pope and a mother to her precious daughter, Michelle Lowery.

Dorothy attended school at Rural Special where she was a dynamic ball player. She later worked at Blanchard Shirt Factory in Mountain View for over 25 years. Some of her pastimes were talking on the phone to her loved ones and her friends. She loved gardening, and spending time with her family. Dorothy held a passion for singing and playing the piano in church and praying for those in her life. Dorothy was a Christian and loved the Lord faithfully. She was a faithful member of the Parma Full Gospel Church. She held a special place in her heart for her friends Mary Brown, who she considered to be a mother figure, Linda Barnett who acted like a sister, and Penny Wilson who was her wonderful caregiver.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving and devoted husband, William Pope Turkey Creek, daughter Michelle Lowery (Jimmy) of England, Arkansas, and stepdaughter Vickie McLeod of Orlando, Florida; brother Archie Callahan of Mountain View; sisters Elvena Green of Mountain View, Rena Carlton of Parma, and Marsha Piepho (Ted) of Branson, Missouri; Brother in laws Tommy Pope (Mary) of Cocoa Beach, Florida, David Pope (Brenda) of Orlando, Florida, Danny Pope (Debbie) of Orlando, Florida, and sister in laws Rosemary Griffith (Dan) of Georgia; grandchildren Cory Garretson of Conway, Kaleigh Crain (Caleb) of Hollis, Jordan Roddenberry of Turkey Creek, Ashlyn Roddenberry of Fairfield Bay, Kyle McLeod of Orlando, Florida, and Brandon McLeod (Jennifer) of Christmas, Florida; fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews as well as many friends to cherish her memories.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Bearl Callahan; one brother, Willie Callahan.

A funeral service was held with Brother Nick Rushing and Brother Jack Robinson officiating the service. The interment took place at the Rushing Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Cory Garretson, Kyle McLeod, Jordan Roddenberry, Mark Roddenberry, Micah Dennis, J.F. Lindner, Derek King, and Caleb Crain.

Honorary Pallbearers are all her Great-Grandchildren.
