Obituary: Rickey Lynn “Rick” Overfield, Sr.

Rickey Lynn “Rick” Overfield, Sr., of Garden Valley, Idaho, departed this life on Monday, October 9, 2023, after suffering from respiratory issues for years. The youngest of six sons, Rick was born on March 28, 1955, in Jonesboro, Arkansas to C.E. “Bill” and Ruby Overfield.

Rick was a remarkable craftsman. He logged the wood that he would meticulously turn into beautiful furniture. Rick was so good, in fact, that he was featured in an architectural magazine for a priceless staircase he built in an astonishing home.

Besides being a skilled craftsman and builder, he was a horseman and hunting guide. Rick absolutely loved to hunt. He loved the outdoors, especially the crisp mountain air.

Rick was the 14th of 15 children in the Overfield family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill
and Ruby Overfield; one brother, Bobby Overfield; and three sisters, Jane Higgs, Sue Greer, and Donna London.

Rick left behind a treasure trove of family, including his children, Lisa Huey of Garden Valley, Idaho, Rickey Overfield, Jr., and wife, Kelsea of Emmett, Idaho, and Wendy Overfield of Garden Valley, Idaho; his stepchildren, Katy Allen of Emmett, Idaho, Marcy Dudder of Benson, Arizona, and Kristy Ahumada of Tucson, Arizona. He was the very proud grandpa to 13 grandchildren.

Rick is also survived by four brothers, Charles “Bo” Overfield and wife, Nancy, of Clarkston, Michigan, Donald Overfield and wife, Sharon, of Afton, Wyoming, William “Butch” Overfield and wife, Rita of Cody, Wyoming, and Roger Overfield and wife, Carolyn of Balch, Arkansas; six sisters, Gracie Brown of Osceola, Arkansas, Patsy Morgan of Newburn, Tennessee, JoAnn Priest and husband, James of Cash, Arkansas, Glenda Browder and husband, William of Manassas, Virginia, June Lloyd of Grubbs, Arkansas, and Sherry Trotter and husband, Joe, of Weiner, Arkansas; also left behind are many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; a host of relatives; and a lifetime of friends.

A Coming Home memorial to honor Rick will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home, 1900 Malcolm Avenue, Newport, Arkansas. Family and friends will be received beginning at 5:00 p.m., with Memorial Service following at 6:00 p.m.
