Arkansas State Police: One killed, one injured after two-vehicle accident near Cord

UPDATE, Nov. 30, 2023, 3 a.m.: A Texarkana, Ark. man died in a two-vehicle accident near Cord in Independence County Wednesday night.

According to Arkansas State Police, Clinton Thomas, 56, was killed when the 1997 GMC Sierra he was driving east on Highway 25 (White Drive) toward Cord was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox heading west toward Batesville on Highway 25 at Mt. Hermon Road.

The state police fatality report said the Equinox traveled left of center when its front bumper struck the front bumper of Thomas’s Sierra. The Equinox came to rest north of the roadway in a ditch, while the Sierra came to rest south of the roadway in the ditch, the report said.

Thomas died at the scene. His passenger, identified as Victoria Thomas, 55, of Texarkana was injured in the accident and taken to UAMS in Little Rock.

The weather was clear and the road condition was dry at the time of the accident, which was listed as just before 9 p.m.

No other injuries or the name of the Equinox’s driver were noted in the Arkansas State Police Fatality Report.

EARLIER: Authorities are on the scene of a vehicle accident at White Drive and Mt. Hermon Road that has apparently claimed the life of one person.

Scanner traffic reported two individuals were possibly trapped in a vehicle involved in the accident.

Vital Link, the Independence County Sheriff’s Department, the Arkansas State Police, and other emergency personnel are on the scene.
