Region 8 News KAIT reports that the Woodruff County Clerk is facing arrest on a charge connected to the 2022 shooting death of her husband.
On Dec. 12, probable cause was found to charge Jackie Meredith, 53, with tampering with physical evidence related to the shooting incident that occurred on Sept. 17, 2022, on Greers Ferry Lake, according to an arrest warrant issued by Cleburne County District Judge Lance Wright.
According to an affidavit, Cleburne County Dispatch received a call about an apparent suicide on a boat, where Timothy Meredith, the victim, was found with a Taurus .380 handgun under his right hand.
Jackie Meredith initially reported believing her husband shot himself, but inconsistencies arose during subsequent investigations, according to court information. The medical examiner couldn’t determine a manner of death, noting the gunshot wound as “atypical of a suicide.”
Detectives discovered a latent print on the handgun that did not match either Timothy or Jackie Meredith’s fingerprints, indicating a right-handed person was holding the gun. Further questioning revealed conflicting statements from Jackie, including discrepancies regarding the location of the handgun in a crime scene photo.
Detectives also uncovered evidence suggesting alterations at the crime scene and contradicted Jackie’s claim that Timothy’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
Judge Wright determined probable cause to arrest Meredith, setting her bond at $10,000. Woodruff County Sheriff Phil Reynolds stated that Meredith has until her court date on Wednesday, Dec. 20, to turn herself in, as informed by Cleburne County Sheriff Chris Brown.
