Coy Wilbur Green, 81, of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of January 17, 2024. Wilbur was born on May 18, 1942, to Coy and Clarine Green of Cave City, Arkansas.
In 1960, he graduated from Cave City High School, where he was elected “Most Likely to Succeed” along with the classmate who’d go on to become his wife: Jeanie Joyce Cole. Jeanie and he were married on August 27, 1964, and remained devoted and happily together until she passed away on August 15, 2022.
Jeanie and he both received their Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Arkansas State University and went on to work in the field. Both were teachers for a while, then Wilbur went on to work in administration for Jonesboro Public Schools before he became principal at the Sixth Grade Academic Center.
Wilbur’s great hobby outside of work was making things, whether it was the country woodcrafts his wife and he created and sold at War Eagle and other craft fairs back in the late ‘80s and ‘90s, or the house his wife and he physically built together. He also loved going to see musicians and bands play live, especially country and bluegrass music. Wilbur’s favorite sports team was the St. Louis Cardinals.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanie, and his brothers Tommy, David and Danny Joe.
He is survived by his brother, Ted and his sister Mary; his son, Clinton; his nephews, Steven, Randy, Joe David, Jason, Jay, Daniel and Josh Green; his niece, Cindy Green Garrison; his nephew, Eric Foster and his niece Marcie Oppold.
