A “super load” escorted by moving crews and highway officials traveled through the area Sunday.
A silo lid measuring 16 feet tall and 15 feet wide and weighing 220,000 pounds was transported on a large flat-bed through Batesville Sunday morning on its way to its permanent home at an east Arkansas steel mill.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) said Arkansas Highway Police and ARDOT is assisting escort crews in the transport of the “extremely oversized” load, known as a “super load,” along northeast Arkansas highways in a journey that began at dawn.
The silo lid’s route (see below) extends from the Missouri state line through Fulton, Sharp, Independence, Jackson, Craighead, and Mississippi counties to the Big River Steel Mill near Osceola.
The operation is scheduled to be complete by 1 p.m. on Sunday.
